Stochastic Modelling in Biology
From the Manchester Bio-Modelling Network
The Bio-Modelling Network organised its third lecture, this time on stochastic modelling of biological networks. The event was presented by Professor Alan McKane on Thursday 19 October 2006 at 14:00 in the MIB Lecture Theatre.
Stochastic Models in Biology
The lecture will give an introduction to biological modelling which starts with the basic entities of the system (molecules, individuals,...) rather than with rate equations or population-level equations. These systems are necessarily stochastic, that is, have a random element. After a discussion of the methods available to analyse such systems, the relation between stochastic models and their deterministic analogues will be discussed.
