In a nutshell the objectives of my project are to examine the mechanisms for gene dominance in yeast. I would like to know why a reduction in allele count from 2 to 1 for results in a significant loss of fitness for certain genes but not for others. I am taking a systems biology approach to this question; I am looking at these particular ‘haploinsufficient’ genes in the context of their pathway using detailed kinetic models. By examining the dynamics and topology of the pathways I will find causes for the effect of genotype on whole organism fitness.
