Doctoral Training Centre

MIB Entrance

The Doctoral Training Centre trains students for a PhD in Systems Biology. This is one of three Systems Biology training centres in the United Kingdom that have been funded by the EPSRC / BBSRC councils. We are based in the brand new MIB building, which will be populated by expert staff with great experience and expertise in molecular, cell and systems biology.

Applications are open to UK and EU students with degrees in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Mathematics or Engineering. The best students will be funded in part by the EPSRC / BBSRC.

The University of Manchester is uniquely positioned to offer a sense of novelty and making new things possible as a result of the merger of two research-intensive Universities: UMIST and the Victoria University of Manchester. The University was voted top graduate employment university in the UK and its Careers Service was also voted as the best among British universities. Direct links to relevant industries (AstraZeneca, Unilever, etc.) will also be put in place through the placement of two industry members on the Management Board, through actual integration in industry labs and through parts of the course being taught by industry-related personnel.

Start Date: 1 October 2008
