Doctoral Training Centre Research Environment More than 50 research groups are teaming up in MIB at the University of Manchester to join forces for research on Systems Biology, from all relevant disciplines (from molecular and cell biology to mathematics and text mining). Our commitment to the study of Systems Biology is stimulated by a world class professorial team, rated best Systems Biology expertise in Europe. MCISB is at the forefront of this endeavour. The creation of the MCISB is already propelled by a large infrastructure grant from BBSRC and EPSRC (£6.4M) and by a multitude of smaller Systems Biology related research grants, thereby providing a clear research focus (yeast; silicon cell). From this basis, research will be expanded to other suitable areas (mammalian systems biology; drugs; biotechnology; cosmetics; etc.). The established infrastructure makes MCISB a magnet for more and more groups worldwide. The University of Manchester is the 2nd University in EPSRC grant support by number (4th by value), and also an equally top grant-holder by value in BBSRC. Our members are integrated partners in many worldwide Systems Biology consortia (IEcA, YSBN, RTKC, Silicon Cell, and others) and connected to the largest European national Systems Biology programme, Hepatosys. We are also part of the only European Network of Excellence on Systems Biology (BioSim). |
